The International Cricket Council (ICC), the governing body of cricket, has played a significant role in the sport’s global expansion. From having just nine members in 1970, the ICC has grown to include 12 full members and 96 associate members as of 2023. Members who qualify for Associate Membership are countries where cricket is firmly established and organized but do not qualify for Full Membership. The ICC manages and governs cricket’s major international tournaments, including the Cricket World Cup, T20 World Cup, and ICC World Test Championship.
The Rise of Associate Teams

The country progressed from Division 5 of the World Cricket League in 2008 to becoming full ICC members in 2017.
